online learning platform - BEMA

BEMA_150x150

The British Engineering Manufacturers Association (BEMA), based in Yate near Bristol, are south-west England’s largest engineering trade association, with members from Cornwall to Surrey, Worcestershire and South Wales. BEMA began in 1936, and provides a wide range of services to its members in the engineering and manufacturing sectors.

the specification:

  • The existing BEMA website had become outdated and unsuitable to deliver the online services the organisation wanted to provide to its members; particularly apprentices recruited as part of a new scheme.
  • The website needed to be securely accessible for course materials uploaded by tutors for apprentices.
  • It still had to offer the traditional support and information services to its members.

the process:

  • The new website required three different levels of security, connected to two separate intranet systems, and had to be operational within one month.
  • We used Joomla software to build the site, allowing tutors, apprentices and members access to separate areas of the site.
  • Tutors and apprentices could upload course materials and completed assignments, and interact with each other using a separate learning platform, while members could update listings on their sections of the site.

the outcome:

  • To create a space that both tutors and apprentices could use within the existing website, we used a combination of Joomla and Moodle, a respected e-learning platform.
  • The combined platform, known as Joomdle, allowed a fully interactive intranet where apprentices could upload their work securely, tutors could set assignments and quizzes, and both could interact on the platform while maintaining personal security as required.

finally:

  • The website and separate e-learning platform are visually connected, both using BEMA’s distinctive logo and red, black and white colour scheme. The new site, completed on schedule and ready for a new academic year, offers several levels of security, with the highest level reserved for site managers, all within a system that works for tutors, apprentices and members alike, while also improving branding, design and the overall experience for any visitor to the website.

shop and auction website - Leafield

anchor150x150cut

Leafield Logistics operate in a highly specialised marketplace, managing the storage, resale and disposal of naval vessel parts. The organisation is closely linked to the Royal Navy and MOD, and provides parts for active NATO and allied forces ships.

Leafield operated a number of different websites for both online sales and auctions, which needed to be repeatedly updated with new information, often at short notice due to the complexities of the industry. They needed a new site that could be updated easily and efficiently, but still allowed the dual functionality of both an online shop and auction site.

the specification:

  • After extensively researching Leafield’s existing sites, databases and their specific requirements, we put together a specification, and communicated throughout the project with the company – over the phone, via Skype and email, and in face-to-face meetings.
  • We held a workshop with employees to establish how their existing systems interacted, how data was input and what they wanted to work differently.

the process:

  • Leafield ultimately needed a single website as a hub for their online sales and auctions, which covered four key areas: a public facing website, a secure online ordering system, a separate auction site, and information on logistics.
  • Based on those requirements, we set up an integration project which combined the best CMS and auction software seamlessly within one website.
  • We gave the site a clean, straightforward design that is user-friendly, but also allows both the content management and online auction software to work to their maximum potential.

the outcome:

  • By using SEEEMS software, the site could also be updated and amended easily by company employees, without the need for complex coding or multiple inputs.
  • We created a single input point for text and images, coupled with a product identification numbering system.
  • This means that items which go unsold on the auction site can be moved to the shop with one click, as both sites operate from one unified database – a significant time saver for staff.

finally:

  • By fully integrating a separate auction site, powered by Auction-Experts, we were also able to offer the specialised system and expertise Leafield needed, without creating a separate website. Leafield now run all of their online retail operations from one site, with added online presence from SEO metadata provided by us, and reliable, flexible security suitable for the company.

silhouette150x150b

BC Photographic are a specialist photographer who take photos of national and local gymnastic events in the UK. Their potential clients are typically parents and coaches of the young gymnasts, who attend on the day.

In order to capture the essence of the sport, a photographer with the correct equipment and skills is needed and this is where BC Photographic come in. They had a website, but it was not working well in terms of getting the images uploaded quickly, or for the public to able to access the images that they wanted to buy, in a secure environment, and with the different events being password protected.
BC Photographic started to talk to SEEEMS UK Resellers, Soinspired, about their requirements.

the specification:

  • First, the system had to be able to handle the bulk upload of a large number of photos, automatically watermark them and then allow the photographer to quickly and easily get them into galleries and subgalleries.
  • Secure user groups had to be set up in order that each competition had limited access via password only.
  • Users needed to be able to buy the photos quickly and easily in an online store and doing this via any computer or mobile device. All of the above had to be available on the day(s) of the event.
  • There had to be a way for users to order complex collage layouts.

the process:

  • All of the requirements were discussed and documented and a design was agreed upon.
  • Close communication took place between the reseller, the client and SEEEMS, in order that the new website could be tested at all stages.

the outcome:

  • Within one week of the site going live it was being used at a real event, and the first sales were made.
  • The security of the site is easy to maintain, and this ensures confidence for the gymnasts and their parents.
  • Sales of the collages have been boosted because it is now so much easier for the customer to choose their images.
  • BC Photographic have been getting great feedback from their customers on the ease of use of the site, and they too find it extremely user friendly.

finally:

  • Google Analytics show amazing results - over 49,000 page hits in the first three months and a bounce rate of just 16%.
